London Law Firm Launches Suit Against Fiat Chrysler Over Emissions

London Law Firm Launches Suit Against Fiat Chrysler Over Emissions”

Last week, America's Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) accused Fiat-Chrysler of "illegally using hidden software" in its engine management so that excess diesel emissions went undetected.

Germany asked the European Union executive to moderate its conflict with Italy, which declined its claims of hidden software on the Fiat 500X, Fiat Doblo and Jeep Renegade cars that permitted excess diesel emissions. "We agreed to set up a mediation commission in Brussels because we have nothing to hide".

The Department for Transport (DfT) said it will be running tests on the Fiat Chrysler's Jeep Grand Cherokee model in the wake of emissions accusations from the US. The two officials have been in conflict since May over the company's cars.

It alleges that around 10,000 diesel Dodge RAM 1500 pickup trucks and Jeep Grand Cherokees in Canada were equipped with software that allows them to defeat emissions testing.

Siskinds was co-lead counsel in a class-action suit against Volkswagen Canada, following the automaker's diesel emissions cheating scandal.

In the statement, the ministry said it had "carried out the necessary checks and sent a detailed report to the German authorities which shows that Fiat 500X, in contrast to what is claimed by Germany, is in compliance with regulations".

A class-action suit has been filed against Fiat Chrysler by London law firm Siskinds. The commission "must consequently ensure that a recall is organized for the Fiat vehicles".

"We didn't ask for any further investigation on Volkswagen; we trusted them", Delrio said. A spokesperson could not be reached to comment specifically on the Siskinds action.

Italian Deputy Transport Minister Riccardo Nencini said late Friday that his government iscooperating with the commission and that "insistence of the German government after the responses given by the Italian ministry is incomprehensible". Canadians buy about one tenth the number of vehicles sold in the US, providing Siskinds with their estimate of affected consumers here. The French tests showed that Renault emitted high levels of NOx (nitrogen oxide), whereas the Italian tests showed that certain FCA group models were in violation.
