New US Ambassador to UN Nikki Haley Threatens Iran Over Missile Test

New US Ambassador to UN Nikki Haley Threatens Iran Over Missile Test”

Iran's actions are destabilizing to the region and underscore the United States' need for the development of a comprehensive ballistic missile defense system. "These are just the latest in the past six months in which Houthi forces that Iran has trained and armed have struck Emirati and Saudi vessels, and threatened USA and allied vessels transiting the Red Sea", according to Flynn.

USA defense analysts later told Fox News that the attackers may have believed they were targeting a US ship.

He said leaders in Tehran were emboldened to take such actions now because the nuclear agreement is "weak and ineffective", and because the other nations involved in the agreement failed to take action to rein in Iran's military ambitions.

The statement drew a tough response from White House National Security Adviser Michael Flynn who listed Tehran's supposed transgressions including "weapons transfers, support for terrorism, and other violations of worldwide norms". This action is prohibited by UN Resolution 2231, which was put in place after the July 2015 nuclear deal was signed and forbade the Islamic Republic from conducting ballistic missile tests for eight years.

Iran confirmed that it recently carried out a missile test and warned other nations not to meddle in its defense affairs.

Flynn, a retired Army general and former head of the Defense Intelligence Agency, delivered his remarks in a surprise appearance at the daily White House press briefing. When Spicer was asked later what exactly that meant, he said he did not want to go into further details, but that the White House wanted to "Send them a message that we weren't going to sit by".

But they were reticent about what actions they might take if Iran continues ballistic missile tests that it says are for defensive purposes only.

US officials said the test launch occurred Sunday near Semnan, Iran, 150 miles east of Tehran. The country has further claimed that the missiles are not created to carry nuclear warheads.

"There's no way that Tehran can't be cognisant of the fact Trump just came into the White House".

President Donald Trump has threatened to eliminate or revamp the Iran nuclear deal.

"National Security Advisor Michael Flynn's statement on Iran today was reckless".
