Man arrested for 2016 strangling death of New York City jogger

Man arrested for 2016 strangling death of New York City jogger”

A man was arrested in the killing of a female jogger who was found dead in Queens, New York, about six months ago. Police didn't have to use the technique after all, since the suspect agreed to give a DNA simple.

Boyce told the press on Sunday that Vetrano's body had Lewis' DNA under her nails, on her back and on her cellphone.

Vetrano, 30, was found beaten, strangled, and sexually assaulted on August 2 in the neighborhood of Howard Beach.

The discovery led authorities to Lewis' home, where officials arrested him.

The NYPD's Police Commissioner and Queens District Attorney, Richard Brown, requested that the state DNA lab do a test called "familial searching" that would look for male relatives of the unknown killer in the case. They were not immediately available for comment. Lewis was taken into custody at the 106th Precinct Saturday night. His family told media in NY that he was a "humble" man who had wanted to work in social care. "Charges are pending", police tweeted. It's a shared responsibility between cops and every resident, worker and visitor to our great city.

"That's how we made the link", Boyce said.

An autopsy confirmed that she was strangled and sexually assaulted, and had put up a vigorous fight.

He had no history of violent crimes, sources said.

Now, they may just get the closure they were hoping for. They set him up, ' Forbes, 36, said.

Authorities have arrested a man in connection with the strangulation of a New York City woman in 2016.

"I'm not going to say it's a good day but we can move forward now ..." We are at a place we were never at.

Vetrano's parents, Phil and Cathy Vetrano, expressed mixed feelings to reporters outside their home.

But she praised the NYPD.

"He loves girls. He was very protective", she said, referring to the women in his life. "He's a savage, and I'm glad that he's off the street so he doesn't kill anyone else's daughter".

Mr Vetrano and his wife raised hunderds of thousands of dollars overnight when they launched an online campaign to catch the "vicious animal" who murdered their daughter. I can't. I can't.

"Whatever I heard, he wouldn't have done it", he said. If convicted, he faces up to 25 years to life in prison.

It is believed the 30-year-old was ambushed and dragged into the marshes where the fearless young woman fiercely fought for her life.

His DNA was also found under Karina's fingernails from where she scratched him, prosecutors said. It is unclear right now who will be representing the suspect at the arraignment.
