Call of Duty's next release will go "back to its roots"

Call of Duty's next release will go

With Activision declaring intentions to take Call of Duty "back to its roots", it's nearly impossible to not correlate the phrase with the very first entry in the series, which was set during World War II. In 2017, developer Sledgehammer will take Call of Duty "back to its roots".

As part of its latest earnings report, Activision confirmed the inevitable Call of Duty sequel that's due out this year. Whatever era the next Call of Duty is set in, we can certainly expect more use of this controversial revenue stream. Call of Duty games will continue on a three-year cycle of development. Battlefield 1 depicted a brutal version of World War 1 with brilliant results, and we'd love to see something similar. Let us know what your expectations are for the franchise!
