Sears, Kmart drop Trump Home merchandise from websites

Sears, Kmart drop Trump Home merchandise from websites”

"As part of the company's initiative to optimize its online product assortment, we constantly refine that assortment to focus on our most profitable items", spokesman Brian Hanover said in a statement.

ABC News reports that the Trump Home Line, which carried furniture and decor, was only ever available from the stores online.

Yet another retailer has dropped Trump-branded merchandise. The president went after Nordstrom on Twitter and defended his daughter. The President of the United States swiftly tweeted his displeasure with Nordstrom, possibly in the middle of a national security meeting. Neiman Marcus stopped carrying Ivanka Trump's high-end jewelry last weekend, and T.J. "Amid that streamlining effort, 31 Trump Home items were among the items removed online this week".

The move is the latest from a company as businesses find themselves entangled in the political debate, being forced by consumers to take a stand.

And retailer Belk said last week that it planned to pull Ivanka Trump's products from its website, but would continue to offer the line in its flagship stores. "We've had a great relationship with the Ivanka Trump team". Not only that, but WSJ reported that the brand's sales were down 70% in the weeks leading up to the election, compared to previous years. The brand's dip in performance was abnormal in light of an uptick in 2016 online sales in the apparel and accessories category, said Jack Beckwythe, a Slice analyst.

Now it just needs U.S. president Donald Trump to respond with a Twitter attack-and the beleaguered USA retailer could hope for a bump in its share price.
