Food Recall: Sargento Cheese Sold at Meijer Faces Possible Contamination

Food Recall: Sargento Cheese Sold at Meijer Faces Possible Contamination”

Hold the nachos. Sargento just recalled seven of its cheeses for a potential listeria contamination.

Listeria can potentially cause fatal infections in young children, the elderly or people with weakened immune systems. However, even healthy consumers can experience symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarhhea.

Though the Indiana-based facility only supplies cheese used in two of Sargento's products, the company has expanded the recall to include five other products that were produced on the same line as those that may have been contaminated just to be safe. The UPC number is under the bar code on the back of your Sargento cheese package.

Included in the recall -- Sargento ultra thin Longhorn Colby and chef blends shredded nacho and taco cheese.

Fortunately, no such illnesses have been reported as of the time of this publication.

For more information on the recalled products, or for questions about product refunds, contact Sargento at 1-800-CHEESES (1-800-243-3737). The cheeses were sold in Meijer stores from November 10, 206 to February 9, 2017. Of course, these cheese products are now being recalled by Sargento Foods, Inc, with great caution.
