New York City bull escapes slaughterhouse before being captured by policeā€

A cow who valiantly escaped a slaughterhouse in Jamaica, Queens this morning has died.

During the chase, TV news helicopter video footage showed one fruitless capture attempt after another in the borough of Queens. "Everybody run!' Then this cow came charging down the street", a DNAinfo New York reporter said.

"It escaped from a slaughterhouse on Jamaica Avenue", CBS 2 NY reports.

The bull reportedly escaped from a large group being delivered to a slaughterhouse on Jamaica Avenue. A representative of the Skylands Animal Sanctuary in New Jersey was on his way to rescue the bull prior to its death.

"It was the running of the bulls today from what I understand", said resident Felicia Evans.

The animal, either a bull (the animal has horns) or a steer, escaped a slaughterhouse around 10 a.m., ABC News reports. It wandered onto CUNY York College campus before it was captured by officials. It was in the process of being taken to a local animal shelter, but didn't survive for long.

Officials said the bull's remains will be taken to a crematorium.
