Spotify Appears to Be Launching a Hi-Fi Audio Plan

An alleged notification within the Spotify app has hinted that lossless Hi-Fi audio quality tunes could be on the way to the popular music streaming service very soon.

When those who received the notification attempted to access the offer, the users were informed that Spotify Hi-Fi was either unavailable in their region, or received an error message. The test for Spotify Hi-Fi was rolled out to a limited number of users yesterday for between $5 and $10 extra than a typical Premium subscription. Tidal charges $19.99 a month for lossless sound quality, or $16.99 a month if users pay for six months at a time.

It's a move that makes a lot of sense for Spotify, as the music streaming arena becomes more and more congested and competitive Spotify need to set themselves apart.

While the growing user numbers are impressive, it should be noted that Spotify has yet to turn a profit, having lost almost $200 million on $2.2 billion in revenue in 2015, the most recent public figures available.

Spotify is preparing to launch a lossless audio version of its streaming service, according to multiple sources.

Spotify has a free tier with ads and a $9.99 per month option that gives subscribers premium features like ad-free streaming and offline playback. Signing up might also get audiophiles a free vinyl and discounts on future vinyl purchases. Some saw pricing at $20 and others at $15 a month, so Spotify is clearly still testing. And now Spotify tries to fight this issue with beta-testing Spotify Hi-Fi or as the company calls it - “The ultimate music experience.”. Second, Spotify has never seen a profitable year, and the added revenue could help that finally change.
