Bears Considered Frontrunner To Sign Mike Glennon”

Barrows pointed out San Francisco is limited in time if it plans on trading for Cousins with free agency starting Thursday since wide receivers will likely want to see who will be under center after Colin Kaepernick opted out of his contract to join Blaine Gabbert in free agency, per Joe Fann of the team's official website.

Now Glennon's rookie contract is over, and his situation looks much like Brock Osweiler's did last offseason with one caveat - Osweiler had played much more in the season prior to his free agency than Glennon did. He has attempted 11 passes in two seasons.

On the other side of the quarterback aisle is Jay Cutler, the 102-game starter for Chicago, who has been given no chance to return to the team next season by one analyst on National Football League network. They now have three that, quite possibly, no one will want. Reports over the last few days are swirling that the Bears are prepared to pay handsomely for Glennon, and that Chicago is his preferred destination as well.

According to, the Bears have emerged at the front-runners to sign Glennon.

The 27-year-old is reportedly expected to command a deal between $14-$15 million on the open market. The NY Daily News has also reported the Jets do not have serious interest in Glennon, and CSN Bay Area reported the 49ers have "no interest" at all. To this writer, at least, that seems like a lateral move at best, and one that does not do anything to significantly improve the team. All of those 18 starts came in his first two seasons and he wasn't good enough to prevent the Bucs from drafting Jameis Winston with the No. 1 pick in 2015.
