Mavs Legend Dirk Nowitzki Reaches 30000 Career Points”

Nowitzki finished with a game-high 25 points as Dallas improved to 27-36 to remain on the fringes of the race for post-season places.

LOS ANGELES •German star Dirk Nowitzki became only the sixth player in National Basketball Association (NBA) history to reach 30,000 career points on Tuesday, as the Dallas Mavericks cruised to a 122-111 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers.

The German NBA legend needed just 20 points to reach the mark going into their game against the Lakers, and did so in the second quarter with one of his signature fadeaway jumpers. Nowitzki ended the match with 30,005 career regular season points.

Nowitzki is on pace to finish this season with 30,340 points, putting him within range of Chamberlain if he plays next season, which would be his 20th.

Dallas owner Mark Cuban and players around the league reacted to the historic night on their social media accounts.

"It's been sort of surreal-30,000 is unbelievable, a lot of points", Dirk said after notching 25 points and 11 rebounds in a 122-111 win.

"It says that Dirk is obviously a great player".

"I know Kobe was the hardest working player I've been around", Walton said before the game.

Bojan Bogdanovic went a ideal 16-for-16 from the free-throw line and finished with 29 points to lead the Wizards to a thrilling high-scoring road win. Every milestone makes you reflect a little bit.

The Lakers (19-45) lost eight in a row despite getting 22 points apiece from D'Angelo Russell and Jordan Clarkson. The Lakers were torched by Dirk Nowitzki tonight and Randle didn't play particularly well on defense, but that won't bother his fantasy owners too much.

Mavericks: Home against Brooklyn on Friday.
