Dusseldorf train station axe attack injures at least five, man arrested”

Several people were injured in an ax attack in the main train station in Dusseldorf Germany, according to a police spokesperson.

Federal police spokesman for North Rhine-Wesphalia state, Rainer Kerstiens, told Deutsche Welle it appeared to be an attack and a search was still underway.

Trains are reportedly not stopping at the station.

A police spokesman said the suspected assailant had been taken into custody.

Witnesses reported seeing injured people lying on the ground, and at least one man armed with an axe.

Train services in the city were shut down and police have asked that the public stay away from the Dusseldorf main station where the attack occurred.

Emergency crews rush to help an injured person inside the station.

Bruno Macedo tweeted: 'Man with axe chased by police in Dusseldorf.

Earlier this evening a terrified passenger claimed on Twitter that a "crazy man" attacked people in the station.
