The man demanded to speak to a company official on the ground and the flight crew allowed him to use an onboard telephone to call its corporate headquarters. During the in-flight call he placed, he allegedly threatened to "take someone behind the woodshed", an LA Airport Police rep tells the Los Angeles Times.

Police and Federal Bureau of Investigation agents met with the passenger and crew when the plane landed in Los Angeles and determined after questioning both sides that no crime had been committed, Pedregon said. But he was released to find another flight after authorities determined it was simply a business dispute, Pedregon said.

Passenger Claudia Rodriguez, a Dallas resident, said the airline did not provide much information during the incident.

Cellphone footage of the incident showed the man saying that all the "illegals" should be kicked off the plane, moments before he and a woman were asked to collect their belongings and exit the aircraft. "Maybe they felt uncomfortable with it, which is well within their rights to divert the plane and refuse service", Pedregon said. About an hour later, the pilot announced that the plane was landing in Los Angeles but had to dump its fuel over the ocean first. "First of all, it costs $12,000 for them to land here, and it was a $12 blanket".
