Kirk Cousins wants 'no part' of Washington Redskins”

Kirk Cousins appealed personally to owner Dan Snyder for a trade but was basically told not to get his hopes up, per sources.

General manager Scot McCloughan could be on his way out of Washington (it's a long, complicated divorce that's broken down nicely by the Washington Post here), underscoring the front office disarray.

In two years as the starting quarterback, Cousins has proven to be one of the more accurate passers in the NFC and capable of leading the Redskins to the playoffs.

SB Nation indicated that the Redskins offered him a long-term deal worth $20 million per year. In 2016-2017, Cousins completed an even 67 percent of his passing attempts en route to a single-season career-high 4,917 yards through the air.

Despite rumors and speculation that the Redskins would trade Cousins, possibly to the San Francisco 49ers, Adam Schefter's latest report says that is not going to happen. They would only gain at most a third round compensatory pick in 2019.

Former NFL agent Joel Corry told The Sports Junkies on 106.7 The Fan back in January that Cousins could fetch as much as $90 million in guaranteed money on the open market right now.

According to Schefter, the Redskins have been approached by teams about a possible trade, but they have all been "rebuffed". The 49ers have plenty of cap room at the moment, and they'll need every bit of it, as Cousins is expected to command $25 million per year. Cousins will be 29 once the season begins, and rarely do quarterbacks start playing their best after age 30. The 49ers could even wait a year for Kirk to hit free agency and grab him then. If that means trading with an old adversary (or perceived adversary) in Kyle Shanahan, so be it.
