Marcus Stoinis replaces injured Mitchell Marsh for last two India Tests”

Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh will miss the remaining two Tests in the series against India due to a shoulder injury.

Cricket Australia said Thursday that Stoinis, who is playing Sheffield Shield cricket for Victoria in Alice Springs, will fly to India at the conclusion of the match against Western Australia, likely on Sunday.

Marsh's pace as a bowler has reduced from the regular 140kmph's of 2016 and affected his eventual prowess with the ball and to cause any damage to the opposition. "That's what got him across the line".

The 25-year-old Marsh scored 48 runs in four innings, and bowled just five overs in the Bengaluru Test, which the Aussies lost by 75 runs, on Tuesday.

Marsh, who is also an all-rounder, was ruled out for the rest of the ongoing Test series against India after aggravating a shoulder injury. "We'll decide in the next day or so the replacement there, and then work out what our best XI is from there".

"No (it wasn't a gamble to select Marsh given his injury).it was fine when he got here but it's gotten worse". I was really happy with the way he played the second innings in Pune.

Coach Darren Lehmann added, "at the end of the day it's unlucky for Mitch and we move to whoever the next person who comes in (is)".

The ongoing four-match series is now levelled at 1-1 after India won the second Test by 75 runs in Bengaluru.

Marsh was an integral part of the Australian set-up although he was ineffective with the bat in the first two Test matches of the series, getting out cheaply in both the Test matches.
