Gboard for Android Updated with Improved Voice Typing, More”

It seems like Google is trying to make its mobile platform more convenient to use as the search giant is reportedly working on some assistive features that might make their way to the next version of Android - codenamed Android O. If the newly revealed information is to be believed, Google is working towards adding features that would make use of artificial intelligence to make life easier for Android users.

As is so often the case, I naturally went to my Pixel phone to see the update.

Beyond the Google Translate support, Gboard is also getting an improved voice typing feature that makes it easier to switch between speaking and typing modes, new background themes, and automatic emoji and GIF suggestions that pop up as you type. I'm sure I'll get it eventually.

However, the new feature will only work if your device is connected to the internet.

Emoji and GIF suggestions as-you-type.

Aside that, Android O will also be able to recognize when an address is sent to you and proceeds to automatically create a link where you can select to pull up the app chooser window to finalize your action, such as accessing Google Maps.

The search giant says that it has made voice typing easier and an update to the user interface enables users to switch back to regular typing easily.

There's also a new Translate functionality built right into the keyboard as well, and it's accessible through the quick feature menu. In addition, Google has said that from now on it will add new themes more frequently, so that all users can customize their keyboard to the maximum. Simply tap the translate icon in the quick features menu and watch as Google starts working its magic on your sentences even as you type. Instead of leaving your messaging app to translate a word or phrase, now you can translate your text right in the Gboard app.

Search and share. Now for the first time in right-to-left languages (think Arabic, Hebrew and Farsi), you can tap on the arrow or the G in the suggestion strip and get access to new search features, including web, GIF and emoji. The latest version of the app is already available and can be downloaded from Google Play.
