Emirates airline US-bound flights hit by storm Stellaā€¯

While New York City was spared from the 12 to 16 inches of snow that weather forecasters predicted would hit the area, other regions were severely hit by Stella. For Philadelphia travelers, flights before 5 p.m. ET on Tuesday were canceled with operations expected resume on after 5 p.m. Tuesday.

USA Today reports almost all flights were canceled late Monday night at the three big airports serving New York City: John F. Kennedy, LaGuardia and Newark Liberty airports. Major airlines, including United, American and Southwest, have announced information regarding travel waivers that passengers can use to reschedule their planned travel should their flights be affected. Customers with cancelled flights may also opt for a refund.

Outbound flights at Indianapolis International Airport that were headed to Baltimore, Washington, New York, and Boston were all canceled as of 2:30 a.m. Tuesday. The FlightAware website said that 62% of all of its flights across its network would be canceled on Tuesday.

Parts of eight states are under a National Weather Service blizzard warning into Tuesday evening, says a NBC News report. Changes must be made prior to the original departure date for new flights departing on or before Friday. Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport more than one hundred flights in and out of airports across the upper northeast have been canceled. Roughly 200,000 homes across nine Northeastern states suffered power outages by early Tuesday afternoon - MA experienced the worst of it with 63,000 homes dealing with power outages. American Airlines, Delta, Frontier, JetBlue, Spirit, Southwest and United are among the air-carriers that have offered alternative solutions for their passengers.

All big USA airlines have waived change fees for customers ticketed to fly to airports in the storm's path.

As the storm strengthens and ultimately arrives in the Northeast Monday night, it's likely to result in additional travel-related cancellations.
