Roger Federer scores 90th career title

Roger Federer scores 90th career titleā€

Federer having been sidelined for nearly six months previous year has made an incredible return to the game, winning his second title in the space of eight weeks.

The Swiss superman was optimistic with 2017, after a not so Federer year in 2016, where he didnt win any titles. Stan Wawrinka was beaten by Roger Federer at Indian Wells over the weekend and the poor dude was totally emotional. I've lost some tough ones against you, but when you played the final in Australia, I was your biggest fan. I couldn't be more happy.

At the start of the year, Federer returned to competitive tennis after a lengthy break, fuelling speculation that his retirement was around the corner. A year ago didn't win any titles. I think it's food poisoning. "The change is dramatic, and it feels great".

The Australian Open champion barely gave his fellow Swiss a look-in with an awesome serving display and was at his classy best as he won 6-4 7-5 on a glorious day in California.

Correlating it to his speech on Sunday, Federer added, "In November [and] December, when I realised things were going well, and we had a meeting about what the goals are for the season in terms of rankings and the goal was to be top-eight by after Wimbledon".

"Stan missed a first serve and then it was second serve, step in and stay aggressive, come to the net and finish", Federer said.

He broke back to make it 2-2 in the second set and broke Wawrinka's serve to clinch the match on a forehand victor.

Coming into the final, Federer had faced only one break point on his serve and Wawrinka managed just four points while returning in the first set.

The victory took only 1 hour 20 minutes and was Federer's 20th in 23 tries against Wawrinka.

After the final, Wawrinka apologized. A backhand into the net gave Federer a chance, and he seized it with a volley victor. "So congratulations on your comeback and congratulations on today". I won the first one. It's a great result on that, but you always want more.

Since Federer is able to pick-and-choose events from the packed ATP calendar, giving his knees sufficient rest at regular intervals, he should be primed to play at a high level during the grass court season this summer. When he defeated Rafael Nadal in the final of the Australian Open, everyone, including experts, were in awe of the attacking show he put in Melbourne.
